Cumulative Position Statement

I believe that this module has taught me that there are so many avenues to take after university, some of which I never knew existed. The guest speakers have really opened up my eyes to the possibilities and actions to take once we all graduate. I was left feeling immensely inspired and motivated after the lecture with David Campbell. His talk was based on his experience with PhD Studentships. I felt like this route would be interesting and definitely the best for my career after university as it opens many more doors for employment opportunities. The lecture has inspired me to investigate and look into the possible opportunities available and also look into where I can undertake such studies.

Artistically, I feel like I have been able to articulate my skills in ways that I never thought I would. I have always relied on photoshop in the past to help finalise my work, but the second half of this year, I have discovered and explored areas which I have never experienced before which is something that I will carry through and develop once I leave university.

Throughout my studies this year, I have been able to take advantage of the guidance of staff and develop my CV and promotional material such as my professional website and business cards that I have handed out to many independent local shops and people I know. The knowledge and guidance I have received has enabled me to assist and advise a local photographer, who has also offered me the opportunity to work alongside him in his various projects. I have also had the opportunity to photograph a local band which again has introduced me to other professionals in the industry, I have been offered the chance to work at a music festival in Liverpool called Sound City, which is a music event that is held every summer. Through doing this I have come into contact with a band called The New Breed, who are currently sitting at number 7 in the Dutch Indie Top 40, I have received media passes to obtain access to photograph a number of their gigs for their publicity and future clients.

With the guidance of this module, I have managed to develop and widen my media presence which has opened up several opportunities for example, photographing weddings, birthday parties and local music events. I now look forward to my future prospects, before the year started I was uncertain as to what my life would be like once I graduated from university, however, over the duration of 3rd year I have managed to find commissions that will help me get my name out there for additional opportunities going forward.
